URL Encoder & Decoder
Choose the encoding rules for the data you actually have. A whole URL, one query value and form-encoded text need different treatment of reserved characters and spaces.

- Paste text and select encode or decode.
- Choose component, whole URI or form-value scope. Enable one value per line for a batch of independent values.
- Convert and inspect the result. Reuse output when reversing a conversion, or download it as text.
When to use this tool
Encode a query value or decode form data without confusing plus signs with literal spaces. Select component, whole-URI or form mode to match the destination format.
A plus sign is not always a space
Component encoding escapes reserved separators that belong to the value. Whole-URI encoding preserves URL syntax separators. Form encoding represents a space as + and a literal plus as %2B. Decoding a component does not replace + with a space; form decoding does.
Worked example
Input: a+b c
Component encoding: a%2Bb%20c
Form encoding: a%2Bb+c
Form decoding restores a+b c.Limits and output checks
This transforms strings rather than checking a destination or fetching a URL. Malformed percent escapes and invalid UTF-8 are rejected. Batch mode handles each line separately and preserves line separators as LF; leave it off when a newline belongs inside one value.
Reference: URI component encoding.
Frequently asked questions
Should I encode a complete URL as a component?
Only when the whole URL is itself a value inside another context. Use whole URI scope when preserving its separators.
Why did + stay a plus?
Component and URI decoding do not use the form convention. Select form-value scope if + represents a space.
What happens to an invalid batch line?
The conversion fails and clears output so a prior successful result cannot be mistaken for the new batch.
Choose the encoding context first
Select component, whole-URI or form-value scope before converting. Use batch mode only when each line is a separate value.
Scope of this workflow
Plus signs have different meanings in form values and ordinary URI decoding. This transforms strings without fetching or checking the destination.
