How to use SQL Formatter & Beautifier

  1. Paste SQL or load a local .sql text file.
  2. Select the dialect, keyword case and indentation. Set expression width and blank-line spacing between queries.
  3. Format, review and copy or download query.sql. Execute only in your own database workflow after review.

When to use this tool

Make a query easier to review with a selected SQL dialect and consistent indentation. Formatting does not execute SQL or verify table names, permissions or query results.

Formatting is separate from query validation

The formatter recognizes tokens according to a selected dialect and lays them out consistently. Expression width controls when parenthesized expressions wrap, rather than imposing a strict width on every line. Query spacing separates multiple statements. Formatting does not inspect tables, permissions or query plans.

Worked example

select id,name from users where active=1;

Choose uppercase keywords to produce SELECT, FROM and WHERE.
Two statements can be separated with the configured query spacing.

Limits and output checks

No database connection or SQL execution is made. Syntax outside the selected dialect may fail to format. The parser library must load, and large or complex statements can take longer. A successful format is not proof that a statement is safe or valid for your database.

Frequently asked questions

Will this execute my SQL?

No. It formats text in the browser and does not connect to a database.

Is expression width a maximum line length?

No. It primarily controls whether parenthesized expressions stay on one line.

Can I open a query file?

Yes. The file loader reads a bounded local text file into the input without submitting its contents to a database.

A practical workflow

Choose the dialect used by your project and format a query for easier review. Compare the result with the original before using it elsewhere.

Read the scope alongside the result

Formatting does not connect to a database, inspect permissions or prove query safety or correctness. Unsupported syntax can fail to format.
