DEVELOPER TOOLKIT TIME & CONVERSION

Unix Timestamp & Date Converter

Inspect a timestamp from a log or API response, or turn an explicit date into epoch values. Choose units directly when automatic magnitude detection would be ambiguous.

Include Z or ±HH:MM in your date for an explicit offset. For ambiguous input use the precision selector.

Date output has millisecond precision. Automatic unit detection is a heuristic.

How to use Unix Timestamp & Date Converter

  1. Enter a timestamp and choose seconds, milliseconds, microseconds or automatic detection.
  2. For the reverse direction, enter an ISO date and choose how a date without an offset should be interpreted.
  3. Convert, inspect UTC and local output, then copy or download the report. Use Now to fill the current instant.

When to use this tool

Inspect one Unix timestamp, convert its unit or create a timestamp from a chosen date. Use Epoch Converter when you need to process a list and download CSV with per-row errors.

Units and time zones answer different questions

Unix time counts from the UTC epoch. Changing display time zone does not change that instant. Automatic unit detection uses magnitude, which is only a heuristic. The date engine has millisecond precision: microsecond input is reduced to a millisecond date and microsecond output is a millisecond value multiplied by 1000.

Worked example

Input: 0 seconds
UTC: 1970-01-01T00:00:00.000Z
Input: 1000 milliseconds
UTC: 1970-01-01T00:00:01.000Z

Limits and output checks

JavaScript Date bounds the supported range and precision. Submillisecond detail is not retained. Prefer an ISO date with Z or an explicit offset for reproducibility. Local dates use the browser time zone and can encounter daylight-saving gaps or overlaps.

Frequently asked questions

Is auto-detection always correct?

No. Small millisecond values or distant dates can be ambiguous. Select the known unit explicitly.

Does microsecond output add precision?

No. It expresses the available millisecond value in microsecond units.

Can I save the conversion?

Yes. Download conversion saves the displayed report as text without sending it to a server.

Inspect one timestamp and its unit

Select the known time unit explicitly when automatic detection would be ambiguous. Use an ISO value with an explicit offset when reproducing a conversion.

Scope of this workflow

Local date input follows the browser zone. Microsecond notation does not add precision beyond the available millisecond date value.
