- Select seconds, milliseconds or microseconds before decoding. The tool does not guess the unit.
- For date input, choose local time or UTC. Use the current-time action when you need a fresh reference.
- For a list, enter one timestamp per line and convert the batch. Download the CSV to review valid dates and individual row errors.
When to use this tool
Convert a list of event timestamps into dates for a spreadsheet or log investigation. This batch-oriented workflow exports CSV; use Unix Timestamp Converter for an individual timestamp report.
Epoch units and precision
Unix time measures elapsed time relative to 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z. Milliseconds use one thousand units per second; microseconds use one million. Browser Date values have millisecond resolution. Integer microsecond inputs are divided as integers before conversion, so sub-millisecond information is discarded rather than claimed as a more precise date.
Worked example
Unit: seconds
0 → 1970-01-01T00:00:00.000Z
1700000000 → 2023-11-14T22:13:20.000Z
A negative timestamp refers to an earlier instant.Limits and output checks
Batch conversion accepts up to 1,000 nonempty lines and uses the selected unit for every row. Dates must fit the browser's Date range. A readable local display depends on the browser timezone; CSV timestamps are UTC ISO strings. Formula-like invalid inputs are prefixed with an apostrophe for spreadsheet handling. Calendar leap-second notation is not supported.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the same number give a different year in another unit?
A timestamp has no unit embedded in the digits. Seconds and milliseconds differ by a factor of one thousand.
Are microseconds preserved in the date?
No. Dates are reported at millisecond resolution. Integer conversion avoids rounding the large source integer before discarding the smaller remainder.
Does one invalid batch row stop every conversion?
No. The CSV keeps an error for that row while reporting valid rows as UTC dates.
Convert a batch using one declared unit
Choose the source unit for the entire batch and enter one value per line. Inspect both successful rows and row-level errors in the CSV result.
Scope of this workflow
This batch workflow differs from single-value inspection. Dates have millisecond resolution, and invalid rows remain explicit errors rather than guessed dates.
