- Select YAML-to-JSON or JSON-to-YAML and paste data or load a local configuration file.
- Choose indentation and the YAML input schema. For YAML output, optionally sort keys or choose flow collections.
- Convert, inspect types and values and download the appropriate file. Keep the original if comments matter.
When to use this tool
Convert configuration data between YAML and JSON while checking schema and output style. Comments and YAML-specific types may not survive a round trip into JSON.
A conversion preserves data rather than presentation
YAML comments, anchors, quoting preferences and original key layout are not preserved through JSON. JSON-schema mode avoids timestamp-specific YAML types; the default schema can resolve additional YAML types. YAML output can use block collections or compact flow collections, with optional sorted object keys.
Worked example
YAML: enabled: true
JSON: {"enabled": true}
Quote an identifier such as "9007199254740993" to preserve it as text. Preserve configuration identifiers as text
Original YAML practice input
account: "0012" enabled: true releaseDate: "2026-10-27" tags: - draft - review
- Choose YAML to JSON and use one document. Select the JSON-compatible schema when that matches the receiving data model.
- Convert this authored configuration and check the intended types: account and releaseDate are strings, enabled is a boolean, and tags is an ordered list.
- Keep identifiers, date-like strings and exact large integer identifiers quoted when they must remain text. Changing the parser schema is not a substitute for checking the result.
- For a JSON-to-YAML return, choose block or flow collections and optional sorted keys deliberately. Sorting keys does not sort the tags array or restore comments.
- Review and save the result alongside the original configuration. If the original has comments, anchors or presentation choices you need, keep that source separately.
Expected types are a planning checklist, not a verified output. The parser library requires availability, and multi-document streams and cyclic JSON conversions are outside the stated scope. Use JSON Diff to inspect structural changes between JSON values, or Text Diff when comments and source wording are what matter.
Limits and output checks
One YAML document per conversion. Cyclic structures cannot become JSON and are rejected. Nonfinite and unsafe integer values are rejected rather than silently exported after numeric loss. The parser library must load; input and serialized output are bounded.

Frequently asked questions
Are comments preserved?
No. JSON has no comment representation, and conversion rebuilds the YAML output.
What does sorted keys affect?
It sorts object keys in generated YAML. Array order stays the same.
Can I use several YAML documents?
This tool handles a single document. Split a multi-document stream before conversion.
Configuration values or a faithful source copy?
Select the conversion direction and supply one YAML document or JSON value. Inspect nested lists and quoted values before using the result in a configuration file.
Scope of this workflow
Conversion rebuilds the representation: comments and original formatting do not survive, and cyclic structures cannot become JSON.
