Off by default. Stores one DOCX draft, including embedded images and compatibility notes, in this browser profile on this device. It is not uploaded or synced. Anyone using this profile can access it. Enabling replaces the previous draft; another DOCX tab can overwrite this shared slot.

Pausing autosave retains the saved copy; Delete removes it and turns autosave off. Closing a browser can interrupt saves, and browser cleanup/private mode may erase drafts. Download important work.
Search and replace
Search ordinary text across formatting runs and table cells. Matches do not cross paragraph boundaries.
Literal replacement, including characters such as $&. Changed text inherits formatting at each match; surrounding formatting and inline images remain intact. Up to 100,000 matches per operation. Search navigation shows the first 10,000 matches.
Review replacements
First eight changed paragraphs; before/after text is shortened to 180 characters.
Keyboard: Alt + Up/Down moves through paragraphs, including table cells. Alt + Page Up/Down moves 20 paragraphs; Alt + Home/End moves to the first/last paragraph. Alt + F focuses search. In the text box, Ctrl/Command + B/I/U formats selected text. Ordinary arrows, Enter, Tab, and text undo keep native behavior.

Table cell navigation
First navigate to a table block above. Table previews show 20 rows, 12 cell positions, and 8 paragraphs per cell at a time. Navigation changes only the preview; downloads include every cell.
Edit paragraph
Enter adds a line within this paragraph. Apply saves it to the draft. Switching paragraphs commits valid changes. Use Add paragraph to start a separate paragraph.
Character formatting
Select text in the paragraph box, or leave no selection to format the whole paragraph. Text edits retain formatting outside the changed range.
Paragraph and list settings
Add paragraph continues the selected list. Imported basic decimal and bullet lists retain their grouping and start values. Custom numbering is simplified.
Tables
Choose an Edit cell button in the preview to edit its paragraphs. Imported horizontal merges and column widths are retained. Nested or vertically merged tables are not supported.
Inline images
Up to 50 images, 4 MiB each / 8 MiB total. Images stay embedded locally. Only PNG/JPEG are supported; external images are never fetched.
The new DOCX retains supported character formatting, paragraph styles, lists, table cells, and embedded PNG/JPEG images. Unsupported features and exact Word pagination are not preserved. The original file on your device stays unchanged. Check the downloaded document before sharing it.
A richer document workspace.
Phase 2 supports bold, italic, underline, strike, font, size, color, alignment, paragraph spacing, basic lists, editable tables, and inline PNG/JPEG images. It imports supported style inheritance and exports a new structured DOCX.
Exact Word page layout is not reproduced. Headers/footers, notes, comments, revisions, floating image wrapping, nested tables, and vertical cell merges remain outside this release. The editor provides opt-in local recovery; both pages provide text search.
DOCX questions
Can I open a DOCX now?
Yes. Phase 2 reads supported document text, formatting, lists, tables and images locally. It provides a paginated text view rather than a replica of Word pages.
What happens to formatting, images, and tables?
Supported character formatting, lists, tables, PNG/JPEG images, and basic page settings are retained. Exact page layout, text boxes, headers, footers, notes, comments, and unsupported constructs are not preserved. Keep your original file.
Can I edit and download a Word document?
This page is read-only. Use DOCX Editor to edit text, formatting, tables, lists, and images. You will need to select the original file again there. Both pages can download a new DOCX containing supported features or a text copy.
Are documents uploaded or saved automatically?
No. The tool processes document contents locally and bundles its ZIP library with the site. The editor offers opt-in browser-local recovery with restore/delete controls. It is off by default. Download your changes before closing.
Which limits apply?
Up to 10 MiB compressed, 64 MiB total declared expanded package content, 8 MiB per selected XML part, 2,048 package parts, 10,000 blocks/paragraphs, 1,000,000 text characters, and 100,000 characters per paragraph. DOC, DOCM, encrypted documents, ZIP64 packages, nested or vertically merged tables, and tracked changes are not supported.
A practical workflow
Open a simple report to read its paragraphs or locate a table entry. Move to the DOCX Editor when you need to revise supported content.
Read the scope alongside the result
The preview is not a replica of Word pages. Unsupported document structures can be omitted, and rebuilt downloads differ from the original package.
