Upload a PDF and choose a split mode to preview the outputs

Files are processed in this browser. Supporting libraries, workers and optional OCR models load from third-party CDNs. Files must be non-empty and no larger than 50 MB. Keep the original: editing can invalidate digital signatures, and rebuilding pages may not preserve forms, bookmarks or document metadata.

When to use Split PDF by Page Range

Separate chapters, receipts or sections from a longer PDF. Choose ranges for grouped documents, regular chunks for batches or specific pages for individual outputs.

How to use this PDF tool

  1. Open an unencrypted PDF up to 50 MB and review its page count.
  2. Choose custom ranges, every N pages or extraction of specific pages.
  3. Check the planned output files and filename prefix.
  4. Split the PDF, then download individual files or the ZIP and review each result.

A practical example

To share two chapters from a report, enter the appropriate page ranges and inspect the planned files. Confirm that the exported page numbers refer to the source page positions, which may differ from printed page labels.

Choose grouped sections or individual page files

The split modes produce different sets of files. Ranges create one file per range; Extract creates a separate file for each listed page.

Authored output plan for an eight-page source
Mode and entryExpected filesUseful for
Ranges: 1-3,6-8Two PDFs, each containing three pagesSharing two separate sections.
Every N: 3Three PDFs: pages 1–3, 4–6 and 7–8Regular chunks, with a shorter final part.
Extract: 2,5,8Three single-page PDFsIndependent receipts or reference pages.
  1. Check source page positions in the PDF viewer. Printed page labels can differ because of covers or introductory pages.
  2. Choose the mode, enter the selection and inspect the planned output filenames and page counts. Use comma-separated page numbers in Extract, rather than assuming it accepts range syntax.
  3. Review the filename prefix and optional watermark, then split. Inspect the beginning and end of each downloaded file before sharing the ZIP or individual PDFs.

If pages 2, 5 and 8 must form one combined document, Extract alone produces the wrong file structure: combine those single-page results with Merge PDF. Keep the source for signatures, bookmarks or interactive features that rebuilt copies may not retain.

This is a calculated file plan, not a supplied eight-page PDF or verified new split result.

Output and document limits

Ranges must be within the document. New PDFs may not retain source bookmarks, metadata or interactive forms, and editing can invalidate signatures. Removing pages from a copy does not remove information from the original file.

Frequently asked questions

Can I split every page into its own PDF?

Use the every-N-pages mode with a chunk size of one. Review the planned output before splitting.

Can I split an encrypted PDF?

Use an authorized workflow to create a readable copy first. Keep the original and only remove protection when you have permission.
