Enter your height and weight

Your BMI, category, healthy range, and body fat estimate will appear here.

Calculations run in this browser. A Share link contains input values in its URL; review it before sharing private financial or health information. Currency selection changes notation, not exchange rates.

When to use this calculator

Calculate an adult height-to-weight screening measure in metric or imperial units. Use the displayed category as context for a broader health discussion; BMI alone does not measure body composition or establish an individual diagnosis.

Review the worked example and assumptions below, then use the supported report or copy controls to keep the result with its inputs. Calculations run in this browser; a shared URL can include the values you entered.

How to use Adult BMI Screening Calculator

  1. Choose metric or imperial units and enter measured height and weight.
  2. Review the BMI and category. Optional age/sex fields feed additional population-based estimates rather than body-composition measurements.
  3. Copy or download the result locally. Shared links contain the measurements you choose to share.

BMI summarizes weight relative to height

BMI is weight in kilograms divided by squared height in metres. Adult category boundaries include 18.5, 25 and 30. The classification uses the unrounded value even when the display rounds to one decimal place. BMI does not directly measure body fat or explain an individual's health.

Worked example

Height: 175 cm; weight: 70 kg
BMI = 70 / 1.75 squared = approximately 22.86
Displayed BMI: 22.9

Assumptions and limits

Intended for adult screening, not child/adolescent growth assessment, pregnancy assessment or a personalized treatment decision. Muscle mass and other factors can affect interpretation. Optional body-fat and reference-weight formulas are approximate and may not apply to an individual.

Frequently asked questions

Does BMI diagnose health?

No. It is a screening measure and should be interpreted with other relevant information.

Why can a displayed 25.0 have a lower category?

The category uses the full calculation while the visible BMI is rounded. A value just below 25 can round to 25.0.

Are measurements uploaded automatically?

The calculation runs locally. An explicitly copied share URL contains entered measurements; review it before sharing.

A practical input scenario

Choose the units matching the measurements you enter and read the displayed value together with the page’s screening limitations.

Read the scope alongside the result

The existing calculator is not a child-growth, pregnancy or individualized health assessment. This SEO update does not add medical interpretation.
