When to use this calculator

Compare resting-energy formula estimates and see how an activity multiplier changes an energy scenario. Use the formula and population limits to interpret the numbers; activity and goal controls do not create an individualized nutrition prescription.

Review the worked example and assumptions below, then use the supported report or copy controls to keep the result with its inputs. Calculations run in this browser; a shared URL can include the values you entered.

How to use Adult BMR & Energy Scenario Calculator

  1. Enter adult age, measured height and weight, and the formula's sex parameter.
  2. Select activity and an optional goal scenario. Supplying body-fat percentage switches the primary calculation to the supported body-composition formula.
  3. Compare the displayed estimates and assumptions. Copy or download a local report and review suitability before using it for a health decision.

A formula estimates resting expenditure

The Mifflin-St Jeor calculation uses weight, height, age and a sex-specific coefficient. The interface also compares supported alternative formulas. Activity multipliers and optional goal offsets extend the estimate into a scenario; they do not measure your actual energy use.

Worked example

Male parameter; age 30; weight 70 kg; height 175 cm
Mifflin-St Jeor: 10 x 70 + 6.25 x 175 - 5 x 30 + 5
Estimated resting expenditure: 1,648.75 kcal/day

Assumptions and limits

For adults; not a pediatric calculator, pregnancy/lactation model or clinical nutrition prescription. Body-fat input can carry substantial measurement error. Generic calorie floors and predicted weekly weight changes are not guarantees or universal safety thresholds.

Frequently asked questions

Why does entering body fat change the primary result?

The existing interface uses its body-composition equation when a valid body-fat percentage is supplied; otherwise it uses Mifflin-St Jeor.

Is a calculated goal target a recommended intake?

No. It is an arithmetic scenario based on an estimated expenditure and chosen offset.

Are activity multipliers precise?

No. They are broad assumptions and can differ from measured expenditure.

Enter the requested adult measurements and inspect which equation the interface uses when optional body-composition data is supplied.

Scope of this workflow

The existing calculator is not a diagnosis or clinical nutrition prescription. This editorial update adds no medical thresholds, safety claims or individualized recommendations.
