Enter fractions to begin
Your result as a fraction, mixed number, decimal, and percent — with step-by-step working — will appear here.

Check your numbers and try again.
Mixed-number signs apply to the whole value. Use Decimal to Fraction for exact repeating-decimal conversion.

When to use this calculator
Check fraction arithmetic, reduce a ratio or convert a mixed number while studying a worked problem. Review the numerator, denominator and signs in the steps, especially when subtraction or a negative mixed number is involved.
Review the worked example and assumptions below, then use the supported report or copy controls to keep the result with its inputs. Calculations run in this browser; a shared URL can include the values you entered.
How to use Fraction Calculator
- Select arithmetic, simplify or convert mode.
- Enter integer numerators and nonzero denominators; add optional whole-number parts.
- Review the reduced fraction and steps, then copy or export the calculation.
Signs, mixed numbers and reduction
Addition and subtraction use a common denominator; multiplication multiplies numerators and denominators; division multiplies by the reciprocal. A negative whole-number part applies to the entire mixed number. Denominator signs are normalized before mixed-number output.
Worked example
1/2 + 1/3 = (3 + 2)/6 = 5/6
12/18 = 2/3
-2 1/4 = -9/4Assumptions and limits
Integer inputs are limited to absolute values of 1,000,000, including mixed-number conversion. Operations that exceed safe integer precision are rejected. Blank whole-number parts mean zero; blank denominators mean one. Decimal conversion is a floating-point approximation and is not the exact BigInt converter.

Frequently asked questions
Can a denominator be negative?
Yes. The result moves its sign to the numerator.
Can I divide by a zero fraction?
No. A zero divisor has no reciprocal and is rejected.
How do I convert an exact repeating decimal?
Use Decimal to Fraction and mark the repeating digits with parentheses.
Keep exact fraction input separate from a decimal preview
Enter whole-number numerator and denominator fields, select the operation and inspect the simplified result.
Scope of this workflow
The page bounds integer inputs and rejects operations beyond safe precision. Its decimal display is an approximation, not the separate exact repeating-decimal converter.
