Keyboard: Enter calculates, Escape clears, Backspace deletes. Use explicit parentheses; the calculator does not auto-close an incomplete expression.
Calculations run in this browser. Shared URLs can contain input values. Review links before sharing financial, dietary or birth-date information.
When to use this calculator
Work through a formula involving powers, roots, logarithms or trigonometry. Set the angle mode before evaluating a trigonometric expression and use the session history to compare intermediate results.
Review the worked example and assumptions below, then use the supported report or copy controls to keep the result with its inputs. Calculations run in this browser; a shared URL can include the values you entered.
How to use Scientific Calculator
- Choose DEG, RAD or GRAD before using trigonometric functions.
- Enter an expression using the keypad or keyboard, then press Enter or equals.
- Use memory or session history to continue; copy or export the current result.
Precedence and angle modes
Powers bind before a leading minus, so -2^2 is -4. Exponentiation groups from right to left: 2^3^2 is 512. Factorial and percent act on the preceding value; percent means divide by 100. Trigonometric functions use the selected angle mode, while inverse functions return that mode.
Worked example
DEG: sin(30) = 0.5
2^3^2 = 512
(3 + 2)! = 120
50% = 0.5Assumptions and limits
Floating-point arithmetic with a display rounded to 12 significant figures. Factorials require integers from 0 to 170. Nonfinite results, invalid function domains and unbalanced parentheses are rejected. Percent is a mathematical postfix operator, not a financial calculator's contextual percent. Expression length is limited to 500 characters. History lasts only for the current page session.

Frequently asked questions
Why does sin(30) differ in RAD mode?
RAD interprets 30 as radians. DEG interprets it as degrees and gives 0.5.
What does 50% mean?
It means 50 divided by 100, or 0.5. It does not infer a discount on the previous term.
Is a long decimal exact?
No. The calculator uses IEEE 754 floating-point numbers and rounds the display; use exact fraction tools where needed.
Choose angle mode before interpreting a result
Enter the expression with explicit parentheses and choose DEG or RAD as appropriate to the input. Review errors rather than treating them as a numeric result.
Scope of this workflow
Arithmetic uses floating-point values and bounded expressions. Session history is not persistent storage, and percent is a mathematical postfix operator.
