OFFICE TOOLS / PHASE 3

CSV Editor

Your data, a clear table, and room to make changes. Everything stays on your device.

CSV & TSV · Text values preserved · Up to 5 MiB / 100,000 cells · No account required

JavaScript is required to use the CSV editor. If controls do not appear, reload the page in a browser that supports module workers.

A dependable first phase.

Read quoted fields, keep long IDs and leading zeros intact, and make deliberate edits without spreadsheet type conversion.

Built in phases.

Available / Phase 1

Reliable CSV essentials

Import with a preview, text editing, record and column controls, undo/redo, and configurable CSV downloads.

Available / Phase 2

Find, organize, and clean

Search, column filters, stable text/numeric sorting, rectangular block paste, and bulk find and replace with previews.

Recovery and scale

Opt-in local drafts with restore/delete controls, cross-page keyboard navigation, table accessibility, and performance checks within the current file limits.

CSV editor questions

Can I edit and download CSV files now?

Yes. Phase 2 imports CSV and TSV text, previews records, edits cells, adds or removes records and columns, and exports UTF-8 CSV. Search, column filters, stable sorting, previewed replacement, and rectangular block paste are available. Phase 3 adds opt-in recovery and cross-page keyboard navigation.

Are my CSV files uploaded?

No. The CSV reader and editor run on your device. File contents are not sent to a server. Recovery is off by default. Enable local autosave to keep one draft in this browser. Restore and delete controls are available. Download important work before closing the page.

Will leading zeros and long numbers be preserved?

Values stay as text. The editor does not calculate formulas or automatically convert numbers, dates, or identifiers. Opening an exported CSV in another spreadsheet app may apply that app’s own conversions.

What are the editor limits?

Files and pasted UTF-8 text are limited to 5 MiB, 10,000 records, 256 columns, 100,000 cells, and 100,000 characters per cell. The editor displays 25 data records and 12 columns at a time. Undo history is limited to 30 states and 16 MiB.

Which CSV syntax and encodings are supported?

Quoted delimiters, doubled quotes, multiline values, empty fields, blank records, and uneven record lengths are supported. Choose comma, semicolon, tab, or pipe. Import supports UTF-8, UTF-16 LE/BE, and Windows-1252. Auto encoding uses a BOM when present, otherwise strict UTF-8. Exports use UTF-8 with an optional BOM. Malformed quoting is rejected.

Does CSV preserve formatting or prevent spreadsheet formulas?

CSV stores values, not cell styles, workbook sheets, or charts. Optional formula protection prefixes formula-like values with an apostrophe in the download. It changes those exported values and is not a guarantee for every spreadsheet application.

A practical workflow

Open a small text table, correct a value and review the exported delimiter and encoding. Use the viewer for read-only inspection or XLSX Editor for supported workbook features.

Correct matching records without mistaking the view for the export

Search and filters help find records, but downloading serializes the complete table. A filtered view is not an export-only-selected-records feature.

Original practice input

id,status,note
0012,draft,Check wording
0013,ready,Approved
0014,draft,Check date
  1. Paste or import this authored CSV, use comma as delimiter and identify the header row. Review the import preview before opening the table; values remain text, including the leading-zero identifiers.
  2. Apply a status-column filter equal to draft. It should identify the two draft records in this example.
  3. For a bulk correction, choose Matching records and restrict the column where appropriate. Preview the replacement and inspect its scope before applying; matching-record scope includes matches across pages.
  4. Clear the view and inspect the full table before download. Sorting all data records changes the actual record order; filtering alone does not remove unmatched records.
  5. Choose delimiter, newline and optional BOM/formula protection for the recipient. Download and verify the saved file, including the ready record that was hidden by the filter.

Formula protection changes exported formula-like text and is not a universal spreadsheet guarantee. Another application can also reinterpret identifiers or dates. Use CSV Viewer for read-only inspection or XLSX Editor for supported workbook features. No resulting CSV is supplied or claimed verified.

Read the scope alongside the result

CSV does not retain styles or calculate formulas. Another spreadsheet application may interpret exported values differently; optional formula protection changes those values.
