XLSX Spreadsheet Editor Online
A workspace for your worksheet values.
Edit XLSX values, supported formulas and basic styles locally, with previewed bulk edits, search/filter/sort and supported-feature export.
Phase 2 supports a defined formula subset, basic RGB font/fill/alignment styles and number formats. Unsupported formulas show errors locally and export as literal expression text. Shared/array/data-table formulas, charts, images, merges, tables, validations, comments, protection and advanced styling are not preserved as live features. Keep the original workbook and inspect exports in Excel or LibreOffice.

How to edit an XLSX spreadsheet online
Edit worksheet values, a defined formula subset and basic styles in your browser. The downloaded workbook contains supported features rather than a complete copy of every Excel feature. Keep the original workbook for anything this editor cannot preserve.
- Open a workbook. Choose a .xlsx file up to 10 MiB, try the sample or start a new workbook.
- Inspect the worksheet. Select a sheet and cell address. Review raw values, calculated results and formatting before making changes.
- Edit cells and styles. Choose the intended value type explicitly. Use Text for identifiers that must retain leading zeros, and Formula for supported expressions.
- Preview bulk changes. Review paste, fill, replace or clear operations before applying them. A formula fill repeats the expression exactly; it does not translate relative references.
- Choose an export mode. Download supported formulas and styles or calculated values only. A filtered view does not restrict export: the full workbook is included.
- Keep a copy. Download your work before leaving and inspect it in Excel or LibreOffice. This editor does not provide autosave or recovery storage.
Example: update a simple expenses sheet
Open a workbook with item names and numeric amounts, correct a value and use a supported SUM formula for the total. Apply a basic number format and inspect the calculated result. Export supported formulas if you need the formula retained, or calculated values only when the receiving workflow needs the displayed results.
Keep an identifier intact while calculating a numeric value
An order code and a quantity may both contain digits but need different cell types. Start a new workbook for this small, authored exercise; it is not an imported customer sheet or a claimed export result.
| Cell | Value type | Enter | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 | Text | 000123 | Keep all six characters of an identifier. |
| B1 | Number | 12 | Store a quantity for arithmetic. |
| C1 | Formula | =B1*2 | The expected calculated result is 24. |
- Select B1, retain Number, change its value to 15 and apply the cell. Inspect C1: the expected arithmetic result is now 30. A1 should still be text
000123. - Choose Supported formulas + styles when the receiving workbook needs the expression. Choose Calculated values only when it needs the result without the formula.
- Acknowledge the export limitations, download, and inspect the saved workbook in Excel or LibreOffice. Check the identifier and formula/value distinction in the actual file before using it.
Typing an equals sign into a Text cell does not select Formula for you. Choosing Number for an identifier can lose leading-zero semantics; a visual number format is a separate choice. Filling a formula repeats its expression without translating cell references, so review every intended reference.
The values above are expected arithmetic for a manual exercise, not evidence of a new runtime or export check. Unsupported formulas and JavaScript numeric precision remain limitations. For text-delimited data, use CSV Editor.
Supported formulas and spreadsheet compatibility
The formula subset includes arithmetic, comparisons, text concatenation, bounded cell/range references and SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX, COUNT, IF, AND, OR, NOT, ROUND and ABS. External references, named ranges, dynamic arrays and network functions are not supported. JavaScript number precision applies.
Unsupported formulas show an explicit error. Supported-feature export converts unsupported expressions to literal text; values-only export writes the visible error. Old cached values are not verified calculations. Charts, images, merges, tables, validations, comments, protection and advanced styling are not preserved as live features.
Filtering, sorting and workbook limits
Search, filters and view sorting help you inspect data without changing export membership. Committing sorted row order is a separate action. Row reordering and sheet rename/delete are blocked while formulas exist because references are not rewritten. Limits include 20 sheets, 10,000 rows and 256 columns per sheet, 100,000 stored cells, 1,000,000 text characters and 64 MiB expanded ZIP content.

XLSX editor frequently asked questions
What is supported in this editor?
A bounded formula subset, basic RGB font/fill/alignment styling, stored number formats, 1900/1904 date systems, search/filter/sort views and editor bulk previews. Exports retain supported normal formulas and styles, or optionally flatten to calculated values.
What happens to unsupported formulas?
They show an explicit error with a reason. Old caches remain inspectable but are not used as verified results. Supported-feature export writes unsupported expressions as literal text; values-only export writes the visible error. No external or network formula executes here.
What does export omit?
This editor supports a defined formula subset, basic RGB font/fill/alignment styles and number formats. Unsupported formulas show errors locally and export as literal expression text. Shared/array/data-table formulas, charts, images, merges, tables, validations, comments, protection and advanced styling are not preserved as live features. Keep the original workbook and inspect exports in Excel or LibreOffice.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Files are processed locally with bundled libraries. No external data is fetched and no recovery draft is stored in this editor.
Does this replace Excel?
No. The formula and formatting subset is documented. Fonts, custom number formats and unsupported workbook structures can differ; inspect downloaded workbooks in Excel or LibreOffice.
