Extract the whole document or just selected pages using page numbers and ranges.
Extract PDF text to TXT or Markdown with page ranges and line-break options. Copy or search the result, or enable browser OCR for scanned pages.
Text extraction helps when you need to reuse a paragraph, search a long report, collect notes from a research paper, or move document text into a word processor. Digital PDFs usually contain selectable text that can be extracted directly. Scanned PDFs instead contain pictures of pages, so optical character recognition (OCR) is needed to infer the words from pixels. OCR is optional because it takes more time and the results should always be checked, especially for numbers, names, tables and multilingual content.
Extract the whole document or just selected pages using page numbers and ranges.
Choose page headings, line-break handling, whitespace cleanup and page separators to suit your workflow.
Enable optional OCR when a PDF contains page images instead of selectable text. OCR may take longer and downloads language data.
Select a local PDF and review the page count. The document is read in your browser.
Choose a page range, text formatting options, and optional OCR language for scanned pages.
Inspect the extracted text, search within it, copy it, or download a TXT or Markdown file.
The PDF is processed locally in the browser. When OCR is enabled, a language model may be downloaded from the OCR provider’s CDN; OCR is performed on a canvas rendered in your browser. If the document is sensitive, use a trusted device and verify that no browser extensions or other local software are capturing the content.
Some PDFs contain scanned page images rather than text. Enable OCR and select the appropriate language to recognise text from those page images.
OCR works best with clear printed text. Handwriting, low-resolution scans, skewed pages and unusual fonts can produce inaccurate results.
Yes. Enter a single page number or a range such as 2-5,8. Leave the range blank to process all pages.
TXT is plain text with minimal formatting. Markdown supports headings and separators that make multi-page text easier to organise in notes or documentation.
Text extraction runs in your browser. If OCR is enabled, the OCR engine and selected language data are loaded from a CDN, but the page does not send the PDF to PixelOkay servers.
The tool can preserve line breaks and page boundaries, but text extraction cannot perfectly reproduce complex columns, tables, fonts or images. Review the result before using it in a formal document.
Files are processed in this browser. Supporting libraries, workers and optional OCR models load from third-party CDNs. Files must be non-empty and no larger than 50 MB. Keep the original: editing can invalidate digital signatures, and rebuilding pages may not preserve forms, bookmarks or document metadata.
Collect passages from a report for notes. Use direct extraction for existing text and optional OCR for printed words in page images.
A document can contain both selectable text and scanned images. Enabling OCR does not force recognition on every page: this tool first reads the text layer and uses OCR only when a page has fewer than 20 non-whitespace characters.
| Existing text layer | OCR enabled | Important consequence |
|---|---|---|
| At least 20 non-whitespace characters | Direct extraction remains in use | A text header can prevent OCR of an image-based body on the same page. |
| Fewer than 20 non-whitespace characters | Attempts recognition of the rendered page | Recognized text replaces the short direct result for that page; it is not merged with it. |
2-3. This is a planning scenario, not a supplied report or recognized output. If the source is a paper photo, Document Scanner can prepare an image-based PDF first. For visual page exports, use PDF to Image. Keep the original alongside the text for checking uncertain words.
OCR can misread names and numbers. Complex columns or tables can lose reading order. OCR engine and language files require downloads; text output does not reproduce the page layout.
A scan may contain only images. Optional OCR can attempt text recognition from those page images.
No. Text order and separators can differ from the visible table. Review and restructure the text where required.
