How to use Income Tax Calculator India
- Enter gross salary and other ordinary income separately.
- Select the age group and enter eligible old-regime deductions already verified for your circumstances.
- Compare both regimes, including rebate relief, surcharge relief and 4% cess.
FY 2025-26 new-regime bands
The new regime uses bands ending at INR 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 and 24 lakh, at 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%, followed by 30%. Eligible resident individuals receive a rebate up to INR 60,000 where total taxable ordinary income does not exceed INR 12 lakh. Marginal relief softens the rebate cliff just above that amount. Salary standard deductions are capped at INR 75,000 new / INR 50,000 old and apply only to salary.
Worked example
Gross salary: INR 1,275,000
New-regime salary deduction: INR 75,000
Taxable ordinary income: INR 1,200,000
Slab tax INR 60,000 less rebate INR 60,000 = zeroAssumptions and limits
Explicit FY 2025-26 / AY 2026-27 model, not an automatic current-year filing service. Resident individuals and ordinary slab-rate income only. Excludes capital gains, lottery income, agricultural aggregation, loss adjustments, employer NPS deduction, foreign credits, advance-tax interest and TDS. HRA and other deductions must already be eligible amounts, not raw expenses. Section 80D eligibility is not inferred from the taxpayer age: use verified combined limits. Tax figures are illustrative before statutory final rounding.

Frequently asked questions
Which year does this calculate?
Financial year 2025-26, assessment year 2026-27. The selected scope is fixed and clearly labeled; check separate rules for other years.
Does zero tax at INR 12 lakh include capital gains?
No. The ordinary-income rebate does not make every kind of special-rate income tax-free. This tool excludes those incomes.
Does it calculate a refund?
No. It compares estimated tax liability before TDS, advance tax, credits and final return adjustments.
