When to use this calculator

Compare monthly and annual PPF contribution timing under one assumed interest rate. Review the annual credit schedule and total contributions; the projection does not predict future notified rates or determine deduction eligibility.

Review the worked example and assumptions below, then use the supported report or copy controls to keep the result with its inputs. Calculations run in this browser; a shared URL can include the values you entered.

How to use PPF Contribution & Interest Projection

  1. Enter an annual contribution from INR 500 to INR 150,000 and an assumed annual rate.
  2. Choose the projection term/frequency and whether deposits are made by the fifth day or afterward.
  3. Review annual interest credit and the schedule. Enable the deduction illustration only if applicable to your regime and remaining eligibility.

Interest accrues monthly but is credited annually

The model starts at a financial-year boundary, accrues rate/12 against each eligible monthly balance and adds accrued interest at year-end. A deposit after the fifth day is excluded from that month's eligible balance. The same assumed annual rate is used throughout, while real notified rates can change.

Worked example

Annual contribution: INR 12,000; rate: 6%; one modeled year
Annual deposit by the fifth day of the first month: interest INR 720
Same deposit after that day: interest INR 660
This is a timing example, not an official rate quote.

Assumptions and limits

Opening-year partial periods, changing notified rates, loans, withdrawals and extensions are not fully modeled. Statutory maturity is tied to complete financial years, not simply a duration from today. One-time contribution mode is only a mathematical illustration and may not satisfy ongoing contribution requirements. Tax deductions are not automatic.

Frequently asked questions

Is the default 7.1% guaranteed for the entire term?

No. It is an editable constant assumption. Check the latest official rate and applicable period.

Why did the result change from monthly compounding?

PPF-style interest is accrued on eligible monthly balances and credited annually, so interest is not compounded into the balance every month.

Does everyone receive an 80C deduction?

No. Eligibility depends on the applicable regime, limits and other claims. The tax-saving illustration is off until explicitly enabled.

Read this as a labeled scheme illustration

Inspect the entered rate, modeled years and contribution pattern before saving a result. Keep those assumptions with the output.

Scope of this workflow

The model does not automatically apply changing notified rates or every scheme rule. A one-time contribution illustration does not establish eligibility or fulfillment of ongoing requirements.
